
My Story
Karen “K-Mack The Songwriter” Ortiz is a BMI-affiliated Filipino-American lyricist, top-line (vocal melody) songwriter and music producer based in Detroit, Michigan. Currently, she is a songwriter for Cheiron Music Group (CMG), which is the main company that operates TransContinental Records (which launched iconic acts such as the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC).
She began her songwriting journey at the age of twelve, a passion that led her to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition from the University of California, Davis, and holds professional certificates in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music.
Karen’s work has received national and industry recognition, including a Runner-Up award from VH1’s Song of the Year for her song “Just Another Day,” and a Finalist award in the 2008 Unisong Songwriting Contest (Non-English category) for “Ang Pag-Ibig Ko Sa’yo” (My Love For You), co-written with Pierre Reyes.
Throughout her career, Karen has collaborated with a wide range of respected producers and creatives in the music industry, including Amy Matthew, Christopher Rocket, Tim Coons, Tim Walls, James “Just Gifted” Gideon, Eva Margolies, Melanie Fontana, Veit Renn, Willy Baker, Don Curry, and King Rak.
