Karen “K-Mack The Songwriter” Ortiz is a BMI-affiliated Filipino-American lyricist, top-line (vocal melody) songwriter and music producer based in Detroit, Michigan. She began her songwriting journey at the age of twelve, a passion that led her to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition from the University of California, Davis.
 

Karen’s work has received national and industry recognition, including a Runner-Up award from VH1’s Song of the Year for her song “Just Another Day,” and a Finalist award in the 2008 Unisong Songwriting Contest (Non-English category) for “Ang Pag-Ibig Ko Sa’yo” (My Love For You), co-written with Pierre Reyes.

Throughout her career, Karen has collaborated with a wide range of respected producers and creatives in the music industry, including Tim Walls, James “Just Gifted” Gideon, Scott Jordan, Amy Matthew, Eva Margolies, Melanie Fontana, Veit Renn, Willy Baker, Don Curry, and King Rak.
